Can I Forward My Toll Free Number to My Cell Phone?

Toll Free Numbers, Toll Free ServiceOf course you can! Let’s talk about this a little.
There are a number of myths about toll-free service, and one of the really bad ones is that you have to get your toll-free service from the same phone company that handles your land line. Not only is that untrue, but doing that is usually one of the WORST things you can do! Your local phone company does not specialize in toll-free phone numbers. They are almost always more expensive and harder to work with than an alternative that does specialize in toll-free numbers.
The truth is, any phone company providing your toll-free service can forward the calls to any local number. The only restriction is that you can’t forward calls from one toll-free number to another toll-free number. Otherwise, the whole system is built to be versatile and interactive. If it weren’t that way, the phone service wouldn’t be very useful, since only people who subscribed to the same service could call you, or you them. A toll-free number isn’t a local phone number. It’s a service that lets people call you long distance without paying a charge, for which you pay a monthly fee instead. That service is, almost by definition, not local, and the local phone that it connects to can be any type of phone, wired-in or mobile.
Now, that said: some phone companies will try to avoid pointing a toll-free number to a cell phone. But this has nothing to do with technical difficulties. It has to do with money, the main reason being that they can’t charge you for long-distance calls if you’re placing them on your cell phone. But for the same reason, connecting your toll-free calls to your cell phone can save you money! In fact, you don’t even have to have a land line at all. If you’re just starting out in business, you might not want to, preferring to have your toll-free service ring your cell phone in the beginning and, when your business is up and running well and you decide to get land-line service, changing the ring-to number then.
In fact, there are a lot of things that can be done with toll-free numbers that you might not expect on first acquaintance with the beasts. It’s a wonderfully versatile business tool for marketing and advertising as well as for letting customers reach you.
