that's a fact!

Having a quality toll-free number is great, but even so you’re still missing out on all of the business you could be getting.  Statistically you can loose up to 25% of your incoming phone traffic through simple misdials.  No one is infallible, even if your number is easy to remember, sometimes customers accidentally misdial.  If you’re worried about the potential loss of business then consider purchasing common misdials to make sure you’re getting 100% of your inbound traffic.

5 helpful hints for getting the most out of your toll free number

Application

Your number should reflect your company or product offerings; it should make sense to the customer.  If your company sells televisions, then 800-FLOWERS, though memorable, is not an ideal choice for your organization. However, if your company is ‘Flowers TV’ then it would be an excellent opportunity to brand your company’s name.

Integration

Remember to integrate your vanity number throughout your business. Execution is very important. Your vanity number must be seamlessly intertwined and highly visible in everything the public sees or hears about your company; from business cards and letter head, to billboards, radio spots, and television commercials. Always incorporate the vanity of your number even if you choose to also include the numeric equivalent. This will help consumers retain your number longer and improve your response rates drastically. It will also help your referrals as consumers don’t have to try to find your contact info at a later date, they can simply refer you by number; the easiest and most effective way to bring revenue through your door.

Use a full vanity if possible

The easiest numbers to remember are full vanity numbers, numbers that spell out words or phrases, preferably the product you sell or your company name.  The reason is simple, not everyone is going to have a pen and piece of paper handy to write your number down, so don’t take any chances on lost business by using senseless numbers in your toll free campaign.

Placement

Once you have a toll free number it’s up to you to market it to the public effectively, placement is just as important as the quality of the number.  If you have a website it should be prominently displayed on the homepage.  During a radio commercial make sure that your vanity number is repeated several times so that listeners will retain the number.  Television ads should repeat the number audibly and display the number visually so that viewers remember the number after the commercial ends, and have sufficient time to write down the number for future use.

Testing

If you have multiple advertising venues and you’re determined to make the most of them, then testing is the best way to ensure their effectiveness.  By using a unique number for each avenue of advertising you can test to see which method works best for your company or product offering.  Call tracking automatically done by your carrier can tell which campaigns produced the highest call volume and thereby reveal the most effective use of your advertising dollars.
